In order to get a product that will work with your application, or if you aren't quite sure if Teflon tape is the right product for your application, seek out a trusted and skilled manufacturer who has experience working and manufacturing Teflon tape. By explaining your application, they will be able to determine the best type of Teflon tape for your unique application.
Teflon tape itself is pretty simple to use, simply wrap the tape around the thread on the end of the pipe, be precise in order to prevent pieces of tape breaking off and causes an issue down the line.
Another thing to keep in mind when wrapping the tape is to be mindful of which direction you will be turning the pipe in order to fit it into the system. Be sure to wrap the tape in such a way that it will wind around the pipe in the direction opposite to the way you will be tightening the pipe.
This will prevent the tape from catching and unwinding itself during the tightening process which would defeat the whole purpose of the tape. Because of this, if you remove the pipe for any reason after taping, a new piece of tape should be applied, and the old piece should be removed and discarded.
As you may already know, Teflon tape is a great product that serves its job well. It can prevent leaks from happening and stop leaks that have appeared within a system without having to disassemble everything and re-fabricate metal piping.
Teflon tape should not be confused with metal strapping which is another popular form of plumbers tape yet serves an entirely different purpose and the two are not interchangeable.
